Interesting things always happen when I'm hardpressed for time.
The last time was when I was studying for a paper for the promotional examinations. The police came a-knocking at my front door at 4am in the morning because they found a maid hiding in the drain outside my window. [Okay, I live on the second storey, and my window overlooks a little drain that lies by the side of the road]
Pity the stereo was blasting music and I didn't hear the pattering of footsteps when she ran to hide in the drain.
ANYWAY, at 12 midnight I heard a loud crash and bang while in the study room, which is next to mine. And my first thought was 'what if it's a dead body! I'm so not going to freak myself out with that'. So I sat there typing away at my written report until my mum went running into my room to check out - see, noseyness runs in my family. Then, upon hearing no bodies were present I too ran into my room to spy from my window. My window's the only place with a perfect view of the whole situation. A black car had whamed the parked car belonging to my neighbour two doors away, and the whole bumper / fender - whatever's attached to the back of the car was lying on the road. Glass everywhere. And I heard the screeching of tyres as the black car made a hurried, frantic exit from the crime scene. So exciting!
THEN, the owner, a voluptious Indian lady came running out in her pyjamus. Upon seeing parts of her baby on the road she let rip 'MUTHAFUCKER!'. Whooo. I think she woke up the dead. ALL THE LIGHTS AROUND FLUTTERED ON. Serious. Was so bloody cool. And of course I continued spying from my window and attempted to take crappy photographs. I spy from my window so often that the curtain's strategically placed so I can look out, and no one knows.
The traffic police came - just 2 puny motorbikes - was such a letdown. And yadayada, lady complained, shrieked and screamed, all her friends and relatives started coming down - the street was practically flooded with cars and flocks of people. Was like a mafia thing. Ooooh.
The police just left. Crowd's dispersing. Lady's still complaining. I can hear her from my room, and that's like 200m away. I'm seated on my bed blogging. When cars drive pass their tyres roll over the glass bits on the road. I hear the crunch. The whole family's dressed in white. Uniformed pyjamus, a sign of unity, or are they mourning for the metal piece lying on cold hard asphalt.
Aiyoh so exciting!
